The United States Army selected the winner in the competition for a next-generation manned vertical take-off and landing platform, a first in the comprehensive Future Vertical Lift program. In the proceedings at FLRAA (Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft), Bell triumphed with a V-280 Valor defeating Lockheed owned Martin Sikorsky, who was offering the SB>1 Defiant helicopter. This is not only the triumph of 1 company over another, but above all the determination of the direction of improvement of verticals for the next decades.
