On 24 April this year, during the 33rd session of the Sejm, Members adopted a resolution on the commemoration of Pope Francis.
- The Sejm of the Republic of Poland, expressing a deep regret about the departure of the Holy Father Francis, pays tribute to him and to His service, in which he was guided by humility and modesty, wrote MPs in the adopted document.
As noted, Pope Francis will stay remembered as the advocate of the poor, the proclaimer of the Gospel, and the man of mercy. "His large love for the weak, needy and oppressed, victims of armed conflicts and refugees, as well as his conviction of the request to keep harmony and justice among people, his concern for nature and the natural heritage of the full planet have contributed to the lasting achievements of the Church. Teaching the Holy Father, filled with concern for the dignity of all man, was a continuation of the large heritage of St John Paul II – Pope of Poland, who preached inalienable values of humanity, freedom and solidarity, profoundly rooted in Christian traditions of the Polish Nation – we read in the resolution.
Members stressed that "these traditions and Christian religion form an highly crucial part of our national identity." "In the face of this minute of reflection and prayer, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls for reflection. Let the departure of Pope Francis become an impulse to build a community based on common respect and knowing – says the resolution.
