The incidental occurred last Wednesday, erstwhile a 50-year-old was lying unconscious in a stairwell where an ambulance was called. Upon awakening, she became aggressive and in giving her help, violated the physical integrity of the rescuers by hitting and kicking them, and besides vulgarly insulted them. Directed at the scene by uniforms, they stopped an aggressive female who had more than 1.5 alcohol in her body. After she sobered up, she heard the charges.

An investigation is being conducted in this case, which will find its final in court. As the police point out, paramedics in the performance of their duties have the position of public officers and are subject to peculiar legal protection. Anyone who violates their physical integrity, insults, threatens or threatens to harm their actions or commits active assault must have criminal liability.

According to the Criminal Code, a fine, a word of imprisonment or imprisonment of up to 3 years is punishable for violating the integrity of a public officer. In the Silesian Voivodeship, for 5 years, police officers have been organising cyclical workshops "Self-defense in ambulance". Their aim is to improve the safety of paramedics and prepare them for critical situations.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, in 2020 there were over 12 1000 reports of reports of aggression against paramedics in Poland. That means all 4 minutes a paramedic is attacked or insulted. This situation is unacceptable and requires immediate action.

Therefore, police and medical organizations are taking initiatives to improve the safety and preparation of paramedics for critical situations. 1 specified example is the self-defense workshop in the ambulance, which has been organized in the Silesian Voivodeship for 5 years. These workshops give paramedics the chance to make skills and prepare themselves for the dangerous situations they may encounter during their duties.

It is worth reminding that paramedics are qualified and dedicated professionals who are ready to help, regardless of circumstances. Therefore, we, as a society, must support them and safeguard their safety in the performance of their duties.

Statistics show that cases of aggression against paramedics are increasing. Therefore, police and medical organizations must cooperate to counter these phenomena and to safe medical rescuers.
