The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Freedom and Democracy Foundation, the Pomeranian Medical University and the Institute of National Memory issued a communication concerning the termination of the taking of remains in the erstwhile village of Puźniki in the Tarnopolski region of Ukraine.

“Storage fragments of at least 42 people were found – women, men and children. After laboratory tests, the final number of victims, their sex and age will be given,” says the Communication.

“Research squad cleans up collected remains, performs anthropological, medical analyses and 3D scans. At the same time, samples of genetic investigation material are obtained, from which the DNA of the victims will be extracted. These actions are aimed at restoring their identity, and a burial worthy. According to the will of families, after conducting investigation work, the remains of the victims will be buried in the cemetery in Puźniki.

Personal items were besides secured during the work, including buttons, rosary fragments, medals.

The work coordinated by the Foundation “Freedom and Democracy” is attended by experts from the Pomeranian Medical University, the companies “Vołyńskie antiquity” and the Institute of National Memory. The work is financed entirely from the budget of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage".
