A fresh installment of the old conflict began erstwhile the authorities of the University of Istanbul cancelled a master's degree obtained in the 1990s by Ekrem Imamoğlu in the English-language Economics Department. Reason: alleged failure to complete the formalities, and consequently illegal transfer to Istanbul college from another school. A fewer independent media in Turkey reported that this was another effort to remove from the political scene the only man who had a chance to defeat president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who had served for 23 years (first as Prime Minister). Having a higher education is simply a request placed in Turkey before a candidate for a presidential seat.
