The Polish MFA reacts and imposes an entry ban. This is the reason for the sanctions

Why is this important?

Anti-government protests have been underway in Georgia since the end of November 2024, which began erstwhile the authorities announced the suspension of talks on the country's accession to the EU by 2028. People are besides protesting over the parliamentary elections of October 26, which the opposition finds manipulated.

What did the MFA say?

"In consequence to the expanding repression of the opposition in Georgia, Poland has introduced a ban on entry into its territory for 8 force ministries liable for force against protesters", the MFA reported on social media. "Poland will support the pro-European aspirations of Georgian society," the Polish Ministry of Diplomacy notes.

MFA spokesperson Paweł Wroński told PAP that the entry ban concerns persons mainly related to the Georgian Home Affairs Ministry, he did not give the names of persons subject to these sanctions.

What steps did Britain take?

In April, sanctions were besides imposed on any representatives of the Georgian authorities by the British Government. The restrictions included, among others, the first Deputy Minister of Interior of the Bedoid's Madness. Everyone was accused of allowing "serious human rights violations". British sanctions besides included a high-ranking typical of the peculiar Tasks Department in the Georgian MMA Mirza Kezewadze, lawyer General Giorgi Gabitashwi and Head of peculiar Investigation Service Karlo Katsitadze.
