Pentagon against atom for Poland. Nawrocki won't be happy

The deputy chief of the Pentagon says straight that the US will argue the construction of atomic capabilities by countries specified as Poland. This collides with the fresh statements of Karol Nawrocki.

Elbridge Colby, Deputy Secretary of defence of the United States, was asked about European atomic deterrence ideas – both about talks around the French and British umbrella, and about a script in which countries like Poland would make their own capabilities.

In his opinion, the greater contribution of European allies to NATO's atomic deterrence was regarded as a "reasonable" direction, but at the same time he added that Washington would effort to discourage countries like Poland, Germany or Scandinavian countries from building independent atomic capabilities and "at least firmly" to argue it.

Colby besides pointed out the limitations of the French offer. In his view, the French deterrence is designed primarily for France, and what is different is the political declaration, and what is different is the credible ability to include the umbrella of countries hundreds of kilometres away.

Nawrocks up the subject, but the U.S. plays their way

The president himself adds fuel to this discussion. Karol Nawrocki publically said that he was a large supporter of Poland's integration into the atomic project, and besides stressed that building safety – even with mention to atomic possible – is simply a direction he powerfully supports.

Nawrocki insists on a thread that for any voters sounds like a tough consequence to the increasing threat, but the US administration signals that it does not intend to open the door to atomic "self-service" in Europe. Umbrella and joint NATO planning – yes, the spread of treaties and building our own capabilities – no.

In Nawrocki-Washington's relationship, Donald Trump and his "American first" policy kind become peculiarly important. If the president of the Republic of Poland is trying to push the subject of the atom as a Polish safety policy, from the position of the Pentagon, specified movements look like the hazard of destabilising the full architecture of deterrence, in which the United States inactive wants to keep control of the toughest guarantees.

France, talks and safety brake

In parallel, there is simply a debate on the function that France can play in atomic deterrence. From Paris comes the signal of "greater opening", but with a very hard condition that French atomic weapons stay French besides in the political sense of the decision to usage it.

Emmanuel Macron spoke of a fresh attitude in which it would be possible to temporarily deploy elements of strategical air force in allies, but at the same time emphasized the deficiency of "sharing" with the final decision to usage the atom.

Donald Tusk wrote on Monday on platform X that Poland is having talks with France and "a group of closest European allies" on the atomic deterrence program.

Radosław Sikorski, on the another hand, eased his emotions, stressing that Warsaw did not receive an invitation to a joint deterrence, but alternatively only an invitation to talk. He besides asked not to go besides far into the future.
