On Monday, December 11, the State Election Commission (PPP) approved the financial statements of the Law and Justice Committee (PiS) from the 2023 parliamentary elections. This decision sparked a heated debate on the political stage.

In Poland, each election committee must study on the electoral run to PKW. In the case of PiS, this study covers about PLN 120 million. As the PKW approved this report, this means that the PiS Committee met the requirements for backing the election campaign.

In consequence to this decision, the Minister of Finance was asked for the next steps. Krzysztof Bosak, a Confederate MP in the Polsat News program, replied that “he should transfer money”. He added that although "abuse was in the usage of public money in the electoral campaign", the law should be respected. If legal procedures have resulted in benefits for the Law and Justice, the opinions of lawyers or politicians cannot change that.

Many people, including Robert Kropiwnicki, Deputy Minister of State Assets from KO, criticised the PKW decision. Kropiwnicki stated that "PiS created specified procedures to play their game".

The discussion picked up pace erstwhile Bosak accused legal representatives of writing a customized opinion. In response, Anna-Maria Żukowska, president of the Left Club, demanded an apology. Kropiwnicki commented, “You're talking nonsense.”

In Poland, expenditure on election campaigns is regulated by the Act on elections to the Sejm and to the Senate. According to this bill, election committees must disclose the sources of backing for their campaigns. In 2023, spending on electoral campaigns in Poland amounted to about PLN 540 million.

Many people believe that the decision of the PCW is controversial. Dariusz Fabiszak, a lawyer and expert in the field of run financing, stated that "there is simply a large uncertainty among lawyers that the accounts of the Law and Justice Office are reliable".

According to the Ministry of Finance data, in 2023, expenditure on electoral campaigns in Poland amounted to about PLN 540 million. This value is twice as advanced as in 2019, erstwhile expenditure on election campaigns amounted to about PLN 270 million.

As the decision of the PPD is final, this means that the PiS Committee will not gotta re-submit the election run accounts. However, many people believe that this decision would be incorrect to anticipate financial transparency in elections.

In Poland, expenditure on election campaigns is regulated by the Act on elections to the Sejm and to the Senate. According to this bill, election committees must disclose the sources of backing for their campaigns. In this way, Polish citizens can find out who funds the electoral campaigns of individual committees.

Due to the fact that the PKW decision has sparked specified a heated discussion, many people believe that this is the minute to return to the subject of financing run campaigns in Poland. Jakub Kowalski, an expert in the field of electoral run financing, stated that "this is the minute to return to the debate on the improvement of electoral run backing in Poland".
