The Ministry of National Education announced fresh rules for the organisation of winter holidays in the 2025/2026 school year. The changes include a smaller number of voivodship groups and adjustment of deadlines to the expectations of parents and students.
Winter Holidays 2026 – 3 terms alternatively of four
So far, the holidays have been divided into 4 groups, but from next year the winter break will be implemented in 3 tours. The ministry explains that the change is due to many requests from citizens and parliamentarians.
"The change in the existing groups causes that in any neighbouring voivodships the holidays will last within the same time limit (which will let to meet the frequently reported request of parents)" stressed the Ministry of National Education.
Calendar of the school year 2025/2026
The fresh school year will begin 1 September 2025 (Monday) and end 26 June 2026. (Friday). Students will have Christmas breaks:
- Christmas: 22-31 December 2025.
- Easter: 2-7 April 2026.
When winter holidays in individual voivodships?
Winter holidays will take place on the following dates:
- 19 January – 1 February 2026:
- Mazowieckie, Pomorskie, Podlaskie, Świętokrzyskie, Warmian-Masurian
- 2–15 February 2026:
- Lower Silesian, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Łódź, Zachodniopomorskie, Małopolska, Opole
- 16 February – 1 March 2026:
- Podkarpackie, Lublin, Wielkopolska, Lubuskie, Silesia
Resort ensures that it is preserved rotation principle, which means that the voivodships from the last deadline in 2026 in the following year will start holidays first.
Why was the division changed into groups?
The main reason was equal number of pupils in each group and taking into account the demands of parents who frequently complained about different deadlines in neighbouring voivodships.
