W The Hagues NATO associate States committed to investing by 2035 5 percent of their yearly GDP on defence and safety spending, stressing that "the attack on 1 ally is an attack on all".
From this amount 3.5% is to be straight targeted at the army – soldiers, equipment and military operations, and the remaining 1.5% will be dedicated, among others, to the protection of critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, civilian preparedness and the improvement of innovations in the defence sector.
Donald Tusk on findings at the NATO Summit
After the meeting, Prime Minister Tusk stressed that Europe is facing a fresh challenge today: "We will all look after each other. It seems that it has yet reached everyone that the position of president Trump and the Washington administration is clear that the military vacation for Europe is over and that Europe must take more work for its own security."
Donald Trump did not cover the gratification of the summit. He called it a success and pointed out that it was thanks to his efforts that NATO decided to increase its defence spending. During the press conference, he recalled that during his first word only 4 countries, including Poland, exceeded the threshold of 2% of GDP for defence.
“A Europe that takes greater work for its safety will aid prevent terrible disasters specified as the situation between Russia and Ukraine”, he said.
It's a clear change from Trump. Earlier he seemed to ignore the Russian threat, present he warns that Putin's goals could go beyond Ukraine.
