Negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement on hostages held in Gaza broke down on Saturday due to the issue of women's release – reported American tv CNN, citing a origin acquainted with conversations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously ordered the withdrawal of negotiators from the Mossad intelligence agency of Qatar, as talks on ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of hostages were placed in an "impasse".

"The negotiations between Israel and Hamas on the hostages held in Gaza broke down on Saturday after Israel continued to push for the release of a group of women and Hamas refused...... erstwhile talks about the release of women got stuck in the dead end, Hamas insisted on beginning negotiations on the release of men – possibly under different conditions, according to the source. Israel rejected the idea, insisting on freeing all women first," the tv station said.

The Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip freed all women and children who were hostages to the Gaza Strip movement – said Al Jazeera tv deputy chief of Hamas's political office Saleh al-Arouri.

"The business (Israel – ed.) claims that many women and children are inactive being held hostage by us, but we said they were not there. We exchanged the women and children we had. If there are cases, we do not know about them or we could not scope them," al-Arouri said.

He said that the hostages remaining in Hamas' hands were Israeli soldiers and men who had previously served in the Israeli army. He added that "there will be no negotiations on their release until the aggression on the Gaza Strip ceases".

The truce between Israel and Hamas expired on Friday morning, and its extension was not officially announced. The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) said the Palestinian Hamas movement broke a break in the war effort and opened fire on Israeli territory, and the Israeli military resumed the fight against the Palestinian movement in the Gaza Strip.

Israel and the governing Gaza Strip Palestinian Hamas movement, during the Qatar mediation, reached their first agreement on 22 November since the escalation of the conflict on 7 October: the parties agreed to a four-day suspension of war effort to exchange dozens of hostages and arrested. The four-day truce began on 24 November at 07:00 local time and was doubled, first by 2 days and then by 1 more.

Israel was struck by an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on 7 October as part of Operation “Al-Aksa Flood”, announced by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement. Organization fighters then infiltrated border areas in confederate Israel, where they opened fire on both military and civilian, and besides took over 200 hostages. At the end of October, an Israeli enclave operation began. The city of Gaza was surrounded by Israeli land forces, and the enclave was actually divided into the confederate and northern parts.

The number of deaths in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the Israeli attacks has exceeded 16,000 and more than 35,000 have been injured. Hamas claimed that there were about 200-250 hostages in the Gaza Strip. At the end of the ceasefire, Israeli authorities reported that 126 Israelis and 11 foreigners remained hostages of Hamas and 110 abducted were released.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict related to the territorial interests of the parties has been a origin of tension and hostility in the region for many decades.
