His presidency was marked by 2 events: an agreement with Camp David between Egypt and Israel, which allowed for a later peace treaty, as well as an American hostage crisis in Iran (which occurred after the seizure of the United States Embassy in Tehran by a group of respective 100 names of Iranian students and imprisonment by them for respective weeks of people in the facility as hostages), which in turn contributed to the fast decline of his popularity and defeat in the race for a second term.
