The Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw found that the president of the KRRiT committed idleness in the question of the transfer from January to September 2024 to TVP S.A. of funds for the implementation of the public mission, and fined Maciej Świrski of PLN 50 thousand.
The Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw informed on Monday that the verdict at the secret sitting was placed on 9 April. The reason was "the complaint of the Polish tv S.A. in liquidation for the inaction of the president of KRRiT on the transfer of funds for the implementation of the public mission".
The Court of First Instance held that ‘the inactivity of the president of the KRRiT occurred with a gross violation of the law’ and ‘he fined PLN 50 000’. In addition, he awarded a cash sum of PLN 30 1000 to the Polish tv S.A. in liquidation with its registered office in Warsaw.
The parties to the proceedings shall be entitled to challenge it before the ultimate Administrative Court within 30 days of the date of notification of the copy of the judgement and the reasons for it.
‘Because the judgement was delivered in a simplified manner at a secret sitting, it will be possible to know the grounds for the decision after the message of reasons in the case’ – informed the WSA.
KRRiT blocks money
In 2024, the KRRiT blocked the transfer of money from a subscription due to TVP as part of public service funding. It was decided that the board would transfer funds to a judicial deposit alternatively than straight to public broadcasting companies. The Council explained this "with a legal chaos created in public broadcasting units caused by decisions of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage".
In the autumn of last year, KRRiT, citing the September flood, decided to pay money for television, most of the funds were to go to regional TVP centres.
