On Friday, February 26, a PiS MP, Dariusz Matecki, was detained by officers of the interior safety Agency (ABW) in Warsaw. This event has generated large emotions in the political and media environment. According to the information provided by the National Prosecutor's Office, Matecki was to hear six charges, including complicity in manipulating competitions for grants from the Justice Fund, misappropriation of respective million zlotys, money laundering, cooperation with the Directorate of State Forests in fictional employment and paper forgery.
Detention and conference of the National Prosecutor's Office
ABW officers made detention in the morning in Warsaw. The full event was recorded by Republic cameras that immortalized the minute of detention. The station reporter tried hard to keep up with the police van. A fewer hours after Matecki's arrest, a conference of the National Prosecutor's Office was held, during which the tv writer Republic did not cover his anger.
The reporter denied the prosecutor's spokesman's words about "night on television" and accused ABW of utilizing "gangster methods" and disproportionate usage of force against the MP. The situation rapidly cooled the spokesperson for the National Prosecutor's Office, Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak, who asked the journalist, “Why are you shouting?” A confused reporter withdrew and apologized for his emotional behavior. Nowak explained that the decision to detain belongs to the prosecutor's office, while the way in which the operation is carried out is the work of the ABW.
Position of the National Prosecutor's Office
The National Prosecutor's Office found it justified to pass a resolution on the waiver of immunity and the usage of temporary detention, indicating the hazard of mating and the advanced social harm of alleged acts. A full of six charges have been filed against him for which he is facing imprisonment for up to 10 years. The Matecki case is inactive of large interest to the public.

A criminal law expert, Dr Janusz Kondek, said about Matecki's case: “The detention of Matecki's MP is proof that the prosecution and the ABW are not afraid to take action against people with advanced political influence. This case shows that there is simply a regulation of law in Poland and that the law is beyond particularism."
Another expert, Dr. Tomasz Zdzisław, adds: “The Matecki case is an example of the importance of independent judiciary and prosecution, which can operate without any political pressure. Only in this way can we be certain that the law is enforced in a fair and fair manner."
