Although the Gaza Strip itself is geographically isolated by Israel and Egypt, the land invasion of Israeli forces was intended to cut through the enclave and encircle Gaza and Jabalia. Prime Minister Netanyahu called it the "highest minute of the battle." Hamas published a video showing 1 of the Islamists planting an explosive on the Israeli Merkava and then shooting it with a grenade launcher. American drones are circling over the Gaza Strip.
