This causes a gradual tightening of their competition to keep control over sizable energy resources or transport routes lying in the Arctic zone. The “game” includes NATO countries, the USA, Canada, Norway and Denmark, as well as the Russian Federation and respective countries outside the region - China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and others.
