Most people believe that the state is necessary, that without a territorial monopoly on panic there would be chaos and anarchy. On the another hand, the same majority believe that an elaborate, murderous, totalitarian state is besides wrong. So they're looking for something in between the minimum and maximum state.
The problem is that these extremes are seen mainly in discussions. In the real world, we have just what the majority is looking for, or the political 3rd way, something between full freedom and full murderism, between the free marketplace and statism, between socialism and capitalism — it is called social democracy and for tens of years in Poland has been in force and is willingly implemented by the SLD, PSL, PiS and KO.
So there is no request to debate, argue, vote, choose — most already have what they want. And if anyone notices any pathologies in this, then they are the consequence of this 3rd way, they are the consequence of a policy contact with business and mixing 1 with another.
The left road is simply a murderous state, the right road is anarchocapitalism, and in the mediate we have what we have — any private property, any state property, in any areas low taxes, in others high, any state wellness and education services, any private, any authoritative decides, any businessman.
The comparison with good and evil will be the most appropriate here. Good and evil in practice always mixes, man is sinful, and he constantly commits sins.
God-fearing people say, "We fight evil, let's prosecute good, even though good is utopia." And the moral third-wayers say, "We cannot fight evil, the confusion of good with evil is real, true, unremoveable, so let us accept it and consider the moral 3rd way just right."
Nowhere in the planet has the perfect of good been achieved. Saints don't exist. Let's do any sin, then do any good, then do any more sin. It has been, it is, and it will be, and you gotta accept it, and adapt to it.
Most people are not looking for the ideal, they are looking for a compromise of good for evil, a compromise of freedom with murderism, a free marketplace with statism, voluntaryism with terrorism, a monopoly with competition. They are like the Goat of the Duff — looking for something very close. We already have this compromise in Poland. We've already entered the 3rd way of social democracy into the black ass and we've already settled in.
