– In Tolkmick and Elbląg, soldiers from the 43rd Border defender Battalion from Braniev proceed the actions they started on Tuesday. They mainly aid to remove mud from the streets and to irritate drains. Today, however, erstwhile the service could begin work on repairing the floodbank in the Holy Gaj, our soldiers from Morąg moved to the action – says Lieutenant Wiesław Zawada, press officer of the 4th Warmia-Mazury Territorial Defence Brigade.
The Dzierzgon River interrupted the flood shaft yesterday at a distance of about 10 metres. The disaster occurred as a consequence of an upturn wave, which, flowing from higher terrain, resulted in an expansion of local canals and narrow rivers in the east part of the Vistula Żuławy. In the area of the village of St.Gaj, the water spilled into the natural polder and thus does not pose a direct threat to people or buildings. However, the power of the river flow was so large that the service could, under safe conditions, begin repair work only after a partial simplification in water level.
The Morag soldiers will aid repair the damaged shaft until decisions are made to disband the military task force in the Holy grove. Polish Waters are liable for securing the damaged section as owner and manager.
