Terrorist attack, threat of radiation contamination and evacuation of the population – this was the script of territory defence exercises under the codename “Releases 2025”. Soldiers of the 6th Mazovian Territorial Defence Brigade, policemen, firefighters and paramedics took part in the action. The maneuvers, organized by Starosta Zwolenski, were to check how local services were cooperating in a situation of real danger.

Attack in the city centre – simulation of radiation hazard
On the street of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in Zwolony there was an accident involving a military vehicle carrying radioactive material. The situation was complicated by a robbery of armed terrorists who, in an effort to take over a dangerous cargo, shot the convoy, wounding the driver and his commander. any of the attackers were disguised as elements of military uniforming – they wore field uniforms, ski masks and false markings resembling military distinctions. This was to aid them get closer to the vehicle and mislead the servants and witnesses of the incident.
The attack was repulsed and the bombers barricaded themselves at the Regional Museum, taking hostages. Emergency, police and military forces immediately moved to the site. Residents were evacuated, the area was secured, and police negotiators made talks with attackers. Meanwhile, firefighters and PSP specialists measured radiation contamination and paramedics provided assistance to the injured.
The presence of terrorists impersonating soldiers required peculiar vigilance from the services – it was essential to verify the identity of people in the area of the event and to cooperate closely between the police and WOT soldiers.
WOT – support at key moments
Already from the first sounds of sirens, soldiers of the 6th Mazovian Territorial Defence Brigade began the action. Reconnaissance teams searched the area in search of escaped terrorist, and successive Territorials supported paramedics and firefighters, covering the area of action. As any of the attackers wore elements of military uniforming, the soldiers and the police carried out verifications of persons in the danger zone, eliminating the hazard of confusion and ensuring the safety of civilians. Their decisive and coordinated movements showed that WOT is simply a formation capable of fast consequence – always where all second counts.

PSP firefighters focused on neutralizing radiation hazard, paramedics on providing assistance to victims, and police on negotiating and stopping attackers. All activities were coordinated by the region staff under the supervision of Starost Zwolenski.
– The safety of residents is simply a shared work of all services, and realistic exercises let us to better prepare for threats and keep combat preparedness. It is crucial to adapt scenarios and training methods to geopolitical and technological realities. That is what happened: we countered the terrorist attack, prevented contamination and supported the civilian population – concluded Lieutenant Colonel Artur Wasilewski, commander of the 62nd Light Infantry Battalion in Radom.
Conclusions and readiness for the future
After the exercise, the services discussed their actions and drew conclusions on cooperation and exchange of information in crisis situations. The experience gained will be utilized to further improve the consequence strategy in Zwolen County.
