Memoirs of 10 April 2010 – Jacek Kazimierski
I heard about the crash at Smolensk from a colleague who called me right after the first messages were released. tv shows said that the disaster most likely survived respective people. I gradually learned the names of the victims, any of whom I knew personally. Already then, respective wise men and “experts” began to brutally manipulate, to blame the pilots, Gen. Błasik and the First Passenger. Even before the authoritative confirmation of the death of president Lech Kaczyński, the then talker of the Sejm Bronisław Komorowski illegally took over the office of the President, rushing to safe an annex that was unfavorable for him from the liquidation of the WSI.
I was then president of the company, so following the tragic messages from Smolensk and Katyń, experiencing trauma and not believing that this could have happened, I felt at the same time required to compose a letter to respective 100 employees of my company. I felt that almost everyone, like me, was shocked and expected their boss to say words of support and comfort.
Below are extended fragments of a letter written on April 10th, which I sent to the employees and together with a white-red wreath in the form of a heart under a cross in Krakowskie Przedmieście.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear Workers!
On April 10, 2010, any unimaginable symbolism of the terrible Katyn crime of April 1940 was completed. Within a short distance of the execution site in the plane crash, the presidential couple and respective twelve another prominent people, the intellectual elite of the Polish nation, were tragically killed. Could Lech Kaczyński and all disaster victims have done more for this frequently forgotten or cover-up crime 70 years ago? due to the fact that now the full planet could know so much about 2 Katyń letters.
Cruel symbolism, soaked in Polish blood, has even deeper meaning – besides on Saturday April day, on the eve of the same crucial for Catholics of the Holy Day, left 5 years ago the largest of Poles - John Paul II.
In an highly touching and spontaneous way we paid tribute to the president of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński and his wife. We did it with the respect that the actual husbands of the state deserve, the people of large concern for the highest value - for their Homeland. due to the fact that specified a large patriot, a righteous and honest man was Lech Kaczyński. past will appreciate the legacy of the Polish President, who has done so consistently and so much not only for Poland. Paradoxically, it was about history, fact and historical memory that he peculiarly cared that "a nation that does not remember its past is simply a defective nation."
I am certain that Lech Kaczyński, if he could, would remind us present the words of the Evangelist, "Do not weep for me, weep for yourself." due to the fact that this large Pole, taking on his shoulders the burden of a decently understood work for the State, collected so many unjust and hurtful assessments. besides frequently he was not understood, for possibly in our pursuit of fact we did not require adequate of ourselves?
The full Poland is united in pain with the families of the victims, the planet is united in pain with the Polish Nation[...] We should respond responsibly to hard questions:
Do Poles should be sentenced to large deeds only on days of national mourning and tragedy? What's next for Poland?
Can we afford to consolidate this sense of national community?
