In late May, Onet published an article by Andrzej Stankiewicz and Jack Harlukowicz, which described the past of Karol Nawrocki, the then candidate for the office of president of the Republic of Poland. In the background appears Grand Hotel in Sopot and the subject of bringing prostitutes for guests. Nawrocki was allegedly to participate in this process.
Karol Nawrocki is suing Onet
After the publication of the article, Karol Nawrocki did not decide to file a suit in electoral mode. However, a civilian suit and a private indictment were announced in late May. Since then, the subject has barely appeared in public, which may have suggested that Nawrocki would halt acting after taking office as President.
– The text, which was published on the Onet portal and later subsequent texts, which were published in the media space, had small to do with journalistic integrity, and more had to do with lies and lies," said Andrzej Sliwka at the press conference on 27 May.
The Virtual Media.pl portal established that on 27 May Karol Nawrocki filed a civilian suit in the territory Court on 27 Solidarity in Warsaw against Ringier Axel Springer Polska sp. z o.o. The case was registered under the signature of XVV C 711/25, and referee is justice Aleksandra Orzechowska.
By order of 25 June, the court referred the parties to mediation. For the time being, there is no court date that will depend on the result of the mediation.
– These mediations ended before they actually started. Karol Nawrocki demands an apology from Onet. Onet believes that there are no grounds due to the fact that no crime has been committed, the article is actual – said in an interview with the portal Jakub Kudła, lawyer Ringier Axel Springer Polska.
Private indictment
A private indictment went to the territory Court at the Warsaw Mokotów on 28 May under the signature IIIK 248/25. It was submitted against the authors of the article – Andrzej S. and Jack H. – on the basis of Article 212 paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code, concerning defamation.
Shaggy added that in the case of a private indictment, they filed a motion to drop the case. "We think there is no basis for it either," he said.
Dr. Karol Pachnik explained that the fact that Karol Nawrocki took office does not affect the course of any of the pending cases. “Nothing changes in the case of civilian action, nor in the case of a private indictment,” he explained.
Article 212 of the Criminal Code on the basis of which the indictment was filed raises controversy in Poland. Opponents point to the anticipation of abuse to reduce criticism, and NGOs call for its removal. Nevertheless, the recipe remains in Polish law.
