Sweden: The central bank recommended having cash

The Bank of Sweden, the central bank of the country, recommended on Wednesday that households have 1000 kronor (about EUR 93) in cash per adult due to uncertain global situation.

The advice encouraged the usage of banknotes and coins to keep the money circulation system. Another advice is having bank cards in the household from different banks and access to another digital payment methods.

W Sweden 90% of retail transactions are non-cash.

The Bank of Sweden was working on the introduction of e-money, but these plans were halted after Russia's full-scale attack on Ukraine in 2022 erstwhile the importance of conventional money grew. Then many Swedes went to ATMs to collect cash.

In many stores you can presently only usage cards or mobile payments. The Swedish Government prepares a bill ordering any service points, specified as pharmacies, which are crucial to the public to receive cash. The problem is besides the inactive decreasing number of ATMs.
