The Swiss government present reported the accession of this country to a joint NATO ammunition acquisition programme. Switzerland will join this group as the 28th state and first country outside the Alliance.
The intent of the programme is to reduce the cost of buying ammunition and to reduce its transportation time. As part of the initiative, Switzerland will be able to buy over 2,000 different types of missiles utilized by land forces and aviation - the government in Bern transferred.
It was stressed that accession to the programme does not undermine Switzerland's neutrality as the country may leave the initiative erstwhile another participating countries engage in armed conflict.
Established in 1993, the ASP is simply a programme run by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The initiative includes 27 countries, including Poland. Under the joint purchasing mechanism, individual countries study request for ammunition and NSPA connects these orders and buys them through framework agreements with suppliers.
The NATO Communication added that, in connection with Switzerland's accession to the programme, arms companies from this country could besides fight for the implementation of joint contracts.
