If the U.S. takes full work for the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, Europe must be ready to take action on its continent and to be certain that forces specified as Russia are under control," said Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth.
During a Wednesday conference on defence in Indiana, the Minister assessed that Donald Trump, during his first and second presidential term, managed to "awaken NATO to carry out his actual mission."
– You're not in an alliance unless you have the ability. If you don't want to spend your money on your military and you're addicted to the United States, you can't stand up erstwhile your opponent threatens you. – stressed the head of the Pentagon.
– Ukraine was a motivation for Europe. But to a greater degree it was president Trump who said: you gotta pay more, it is not adequate that you are going on a stowaway at our expense Hegseth stressed. He estimated that NATO's commitment to increase defence spending was a historical event.
– If America has to take on the main burden of what is happening on Indo-Pacific, deterring China, then Europe must be ready to start working on its own continent and to be certain that forces specified as Russia or others are under control said Hegseth. – It's common sense. You can't be everywhere He summarized.
Last week U.S. president Donald Trump was asked about the Pentagon's decision to retreat the Army Brigade from Romania against his earlier assurances that he would not retreat US forces from Europe. He stated that the number of troops in Europe would stay unchanged. – What we do is make changes. We decision their soldiers, but we have the same full number – he said.
Hegseth stressed that the changes made were made in full coordination with the Pentagon and NATO, part of the force will stay in Romania, and the changes concern the way forces rotate. Like Trump, he besides assured further support for Romania.
