The head of the German Defence Ministry Boris Pistorius criticises the fact that the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is publically discussing military options for Ukraine. It points to the EU's boundaries.

The German defence minister Boris Pistorius powerfully criticised the statements of the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the warrant of military safety for Ukraine. During his visit to the defence facility in Troisdorf to the west of Germany, Pistorius stated that, in principle, he considered it inappropriate to discuss specified issues before the negotiations began.

– Apart from the fact that the European Union has no authority or competence to deploy troops, regardless of who and for what purpose, I would like to refrain from confirming or commenting on specified considerations," he said the politicians.

He added that "what would be possible and what would not be possible" and under what reservations and conditions would be possible at all. "However, I think it is totally inappropriate to discuss this issue publically at the moment," he stressed.

Boris Pistorius responded to media reports that Ursula von der Leyen spoke of an action plan – that is, the timetable for sending multinational armed forces to Ukraine. According to the Financial Times, it concluded that these plans are already rather specific.

Ukraine demands a safety warrant against Russian attacks as part of a possible peace solution.
