NATO Chief: Combating drones – yes, but not with costly missiles

NATO states cannot afford to fight drones with missiles that cost millions of euros or dollars," said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The NATO chief pointed out the request to make fresh solutions for combating hostile drones, as conventional methods do not work due to cost imbalances. Drones are usually worth respective 1000 dollars, and conventional missiles are millions.

Rutte approved the “drone wall” initiative and assured that the safety of allies is simply a priority: “We must make our sky safe. In the last fewer weeks, we have seen what happened with the arrival of drones in Poland and MiG-31 fighters in Estonia, but besides with what happened in Denmark," he declared during a joint conference with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.

The NATO chief noted that there is no uncertainty who is behind the drone attacks in Poland and Estonia – Russia. He besides recalled that the first line of defence of NATO is Ukraine.
