United States president Donald J. Trump reported on 8 October 2025 at the White home that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of the American peace plan for the Gaza Strip.
The agreement took place after a series of intense negotiations in the Egyptian hotel Sharm el-Sheikh involving mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey.
Trump announced that as part of the agreed action, all surviving Israeli hostages would shortly be released, and in return Israel would release a group of Palestinian prisoners, including those who have been held in Israeli prisons for years. The agreement besides provides for the immediate suspension of armed action and the gradual phasing-out of Israeli troops from most Gaza Strip territory to pre-agreed positions.
In the first phase, Israel is expected to leave around seventy percent of the areas occupied, allowing humanitarian aid supplies to resume and civilian infrastructure reconstruction to begin. The next steps of the plan are to address the demilitarisation of parts of Gaza and to establish the future political position of that territory.
The president of the United States assured that the agreement was the first step on the road to "a lasting and just peace" between Israel and the Palestinians. He besides announced that he would personally oversee the implementation of the arrangements and consider a visit to the mediate East in the close future. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Jerusalem government would assemble to formally approve the terms of the agreement, while Hamas representatives confirmed their readiness to implement the first stage.
The American peace plan, presented for the first time on 29 September 2025, includes 20 points and assumes a gradual end to the war effort, the release of hostages and the creation of a framework for a long-term resolution of the conflict. The agreement announced yesterday is his first applicable step.
