In the 81st Light Infantry Battalion (81 blp) in Toruń, the SONDA sub-chief course ended. The training was aimed at soldiers of territorial military service (TSW) from the Private Corps who have at least a secondary education and a very good or exemplary rating from the last service opinion.
The training of sub-officers in the SONDA course is 1 of the key elements strengthening the structure of the Territorial Defence Army. This course is effectively complemented by a comprehensive WOT training system, ensuring appropriate preparation of the lowest level commanders. After the exam has been passed and the promotion has been obtained in the first degree, the corporal, the course's graduates will be appointed as section commanders in the Light Infantry Battalions and the Brigade's independent companies, where they will be liable for training and commanding subordinate soldiers.
Qualification of candidates and results of training
About 30 soldiers joined the qualifying process. After formal verification, checking theoretical cognition and interviews, 12 candidates were qualified for training. The exam was successfully completed by 8 participants, confirming the advanced level of preparation and gathering the requirements of the future enlisted officers.
Organisation and course of training
The training process was carried out in a mixed formula. The theoretical part was held in the form of e-learning from 8 to 21 September, while stationary classes were conducted during 5 weekend modules, 1 weekly module lasting 7 days and a weekend examination module. The first training reunion was held on 27 September, and the final exam was held on 13 - 14 December.
Course thematic scope
The course programme covered a wide scope of issues essential to service as Section Commander. Soldiers were trained in communication, military training methodology, drill regulations, shooting, medical training, field studies and tactics. 1 of the mandatory elements was to pass the shooting of the short VIS 100, which all candidates had to execute according to the applicable standards and the shooting program.
The final examination was conducted by a commission appointed from the SONDA Sub-Office School of Zegrz. Its scope included both checking theoretical cognition as well as assessing applicable skills and candidates' leadership predispositions.
The completion of the sub-commissioned course gives the soldiers the chance to proceed their professional development, including the application in the future for professional military service in the corps of enlisted officers (after joining the qualification as professional soldier). Course graduates represent an crucial strengthening of the leadership capacity of the 8th Kujawsko-Pomorskie Territorial Defence Brigade, raising the readiness of sub-divisions to carry out training, crisis and defence tasks.
