In Syria, the number of deaths increased to 516 as a consequence of the fighting between druz and Muslim Bedouins. The morgue of the government infirmary is overflowing, and the bodies lie on the street in front of the building. Nearly 80,000 residents left their homes in the region.
Information about the dramatic situation in the morgue was provided by AFP agency Dr. Omar Obeid, who worked at a government infirmary in Suwaida. “There is no more area in the morgue; the bodies are lying on the street, in front of the building” - said the doctor. The humanitarian crisis in the region
The IOM Communication underlines that electricity and water supply are very hard both in and around the city. Breaks in fuel supply have, among another things, led to paralysis of transport across the region.
In consequence to clashes between members of the Drusian religion and Muslim Bedouins, troops of the Syrian army entered Suwaida on Tuesday. According to the team, but besides OSDH and another witnesses, any of them attacked the squad population.
Israeli intervention in Damascus
The attacks on the druzes provoked Israel's reaction. On Wednesday, the Israeli army bombed government targets in Damascus, including the presidential palace and the buildings of the Ministry of Defence and Army Command. Israel justified the bombing of the Drusian population, which besides inhabited the northern part of Israel.
A fewer hours later, Syrian authorities concluded a ceasefire with druzes in Kuwait. As part of the agreement, the army undertook to retreat its troops from the city and the full province.
