The Navy Day will be celebrated on 28 November, and not so far. This decision was made by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish at the request of the Naval Inspectorate. This year, the celebrations were already held on a conventional date, but since the decision of the MON was issued after it, the sailors will celebrate again on 28 November.

The representatives of the Naval Inspectorate requested a change already last year. They explain that the fresh date corresponds more to the past of the formation. It is closely related to the past of the Polish fleet. – November 28, 1918 Marshal Józef Piłsudski He issued a decree appointing the Navy. This is simply a symbolic date for us. From this point on, the past of our units begins formally. The date chosen by the marshal was not accidental.. respective 100 years earlier, on 28 November 1627, the Polish fleet had won a large triumph over the Swedish naval forces, under Oliwa. That is why this is simply a conclusion and a decision. The date of 28 November is more appropriate as the festival of the naval armed forces of our country than the date of the end of June – explained Mr Cezary Walczak, Head of the Coordination Division of the Naval Inspectorate of the Armed Forces.

So far, the Navy Day has been celebrated on the last Sunday of June, during the Festival of the Sea (or the Days of the Sea), which has been celebrated since 1932, and its intent is to pay tribute to all people active in the sea – i.e. not only to the Navy, but mostly to sailors, sailors, porters, sailors, etc. In the times of the Second Polish Sea Days were held in Gdynia. After 1945, communist authorities decided that they would be celebrated throughout the Polish Baltic coast. This was intended to increase the speech of the Sea Days as a vacation of “work people”.

Military attractions on the occasion of the Navy festival attracted crowds of viewers all year, which was undoubtedly influenced by the pleasant summertime aura. It was this year. Therefore, the decision to decision Christmas to cold autumn was surprising. However, naval representatives calm down. Marine troops will proceed to participate in the June Sea Days as they have been. The Navy doesn't want to separate from this celebration. As yet, we will participate in the celebration of the Sea Days. On the last Sunday of June we will organize many attractions, including the anticipation of visiting barracks, outdoor events, etc. – provides kmdr. Cezary Walczak.

In turn, the fresh Navy Day, November 28, will besides be open to civilian observers, visitors or tourists. – Central celebrations this year will be held in Garnizona Gdynia, at the monument of Poland Morska, at the waterfront in front of the ORP “Błyskawica”. On the anniversary of victory

The conflict of Olive, fought on 28 November 1627, was the biggest triumph in the past of the Polish fleet. At that time, 2 Polish squadrons of ships (ten units, over 1,100 soldiers) under the command of Admiral Arend Dickmann on the Gdańsk Rede, faced Swedish naval forces (six units, 700 soldiers). Despite their greater strength, Poles were not the favourite in this fight, among others, due to much little experience than the Swedish Navy. In the end, however, they won, causing severe losses to their enemies. More than 300 Swedish soldiers were killed. The Swedes besides lost 2 galleons. The Polish losses were 47 killed.

The triumph under Oliwa echoed widely at court in Europe and proved that the Polish fleet could face Swedish, strengthened the position of King Sigismund III Vasa in Gdańsk and led to the abolition of the blockade of the Gdańsk port by Swedes.

Shortly after regaining independence, Marshal Józef Piłsudski, issued by his decree, decided to establish the Navy. "As of 28 November 1918, I order to make a Polish Navy, at the same time appointing a Naval Colonel Bogumił Nowotny the Chief of the Naval Section at the Ministry of Military Affairs", the paper sounded. Poles serving in the navy in her early days served in the host fleets. The first units of the Polish Navy were created in 1918 and 1919 in Modlin. They were: the River Flotilla, the Marine Corps and the Marine Battalion.
