In the first episode of the program “From Political Bottom” Leading Piotr Nowak and Piotr Szumlewicz examine the latest events around Zbigniew Ziobra. Escape to Hungary and the creation of a “government in exile” becomes the starting point for a broader reflection on the state of Polish politics, its cynicism and ruthlessness.
Talkers compare Ziebra's actions to the serial logic House of Cards: "There laws and elections are just instruments, and if they do not suit a politician, the worse for the law." There are strong accusations of treating the Justice Fund like a organization treasury, recalling the evidence of Tomasz Mraz, who exposed the mechanisms of financial abuse.
The audience besides critically assesses the attitude of the Together Party, which, according to Szumlewicz, "recognises that the PiS settlements are a substitute subject", although its own electorate demands responsibility. In the background, there is simply a broader context: for the first time, the government is actually charging advanced politicians, utilizing Article 231 of the Criminal Code on abuse of powers.
There are no shortages of harsh assessments of Ziobra himself – “all his political career is crossing borders” – and ironic remarks about the paradox of the leader of “Sovereign Poland” who took refuge outside the country. It is pointed out that his escape is an image of a burden on the PiS, due to the fact that “Ziobro in prison would be more beneficial to the propaganda organization than Ziobro in Budapest”.
The audience ends with a reflection on the future: whether the trials against Ziobra, Romanowski or Matecki will lead to real sentences, whether they will stay only a symbol of political stigma. In the background, a bitter diagnosis resonates: "In Poland, a large part of the society has accepted that politics is simply a bottom."
