Television Poland ended the year 2025 with a crucial balance of gross from the state register. In December, the last tranche of funds entered the public bank account, closing the yearly grant amount of over PLN 1.65 billion. The mechanics of direct budget backing has become a fresh standard, and it was expected to be different.

According to the information published on the website of the company, only in December, tv Polska signed a grant agreement of nearly PLN 49 million, although the actual transfer to the sender in the last period amounted to over PLN 60 million.

Over the past 12 months, TVP regularly received financial injections – the largest tranches were contracted in September, erstwhile the contract amounted to PLN 715 million, and in January and April, erstwhile it was 350 and 300 million respectively. Eventually, the full amount of the grant in 2025 amounted to PLN 1,655 billion.

A stream of public money besides sailed to the Polish Radio, although on a much smaller scale. According to the calculations of the Deputy Minister of Culture Maciej Wróbel, presented in September in the Sejm, a full of public media, including 17 regional stations, was expected to cost the budget of the state, i.e. all of us, just over PLN 2 billion in 2025.

The current model, in which public media are subsidised straight from the budget, has been in operation since the beginning of 2024. This is the gist of president Andrzej Duda's decision, which vetoed a bill of around-budgets, which implies the continuation of an earlier compensation strategy for lost subscription revenues paid in the form of government bonds.

The Tusk government seems to want to change that. The consultation went to a draft amendment of the Media Act, which assumes the full abolition of RTV's subscription to constant financing of PLN 2.5 billion per year, valued for inflation. However, the future of this solution is simply a large question mark, as its entry into force depends on the signature of president Karol Nawrocki.
