The U.S. State Department has approved the anticipation of Poland purchasing operational and logistical support for F-35 under the abroad Military Sale programme. A $1.85 billion contract is involved. “The proposed sales will improve Poland’s ability to counter current and future threats”, said the American side.

The Defence safety Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed that legislature was notified of the proposed sale. Poland requested the acquisition of equipment and services, spare parts, modifications, consumables, repair and return support as well as software and documentation. The acquisition is besides to include engineering, method and logistics services provided to F-35 fighter users by the U.S. government and contractors.

The main contractor of the program will be General electrical Aerospace based in Evendale (Ohio). The U.S. Government has stated that compensation agreements (offset agreements) are presently not foreseen, and sales will not require additional American personnel or contractors to be sent to Poland.

Foreign Military Sale (FMS) is an authoritative United States government program whereby the US sells military equipment, weapons, services and training to another countries. Unlike Direct Commercial Sale (DCS), which buys straight from an American company, FMS trading terms are determined by the government, which assumes work for its implementation. In specified a variant, the US authorities negociate with the maker (e.g. Lockheed Martin in case of F-35 purchase) and sale arms to the abroad side. Each transaction must be approved by the State Department and notified to the U.S. Congress.

F-35 Lightning II is simply a 5th generation fighter that was ordered by the Polish Army in 2020 (the Huszarz programme). The $4.6 billion deal includes the acquisition of 32 aircraft, a backup Pratt & Whitney F135 engine, ground handling equipment and aircraft, as well as a stationary training strategy (including 8 FMS mission simulators). This amount besides includes a logistics package, an IT strategy for managing the operation of F-35A Lightning II aircraft and training in US centres of 24 pilots from Poland and about 90 method personnel.

The first F-35 is due to arrive in our country in mid-2026. They will be stationed at 32th Tactical Aviation Base in Łask and 21st Tactical Aviation Base in Świdwin. The transportation of all 32 ordered machines will last until 2030.
