There are 3 more volumes on sale The work of all Saint Thomas of Aquinas. These are volumes 15-17, containing the first part of Summa theology. The summa of St. Thomas of Aquin (also known as Theological Suma) is his most crucial and most celebrated work. He worked on it for the last 7 years of his life. It belongs to the classics of doctrine and theology, and at the same time is 1 of the most influential texts in Western culture.
St. In his work, Thomas utilized a medieval species of "summy", which aimed at a full, synthetic and concise presentation of any field. In Aquinaty's mind, this work was intended for beginners – although it was likely that in the course of work it exceeded these purposes. So he wrote in a prologue to Summa:
Summa's most general plan is frequently presented as a large circular movement of "exit and return". The starting point is God, from whom the created planet and man originate. Man then returns to God with all creation through his deeds and the saving aid of Jesus Christ, operating in the Church through the sacraments. so Summa is divided into 3 main parts. The first (I) speaks of God and His qualities and creation; the second (II) speaks of human acts, is consecrated to morality, and is divided into 2 smaller. The 3rd part (III) speaks about the mysteries of Christ's life and the sacraments.
Volume XV “The Work of All” is the very beginning of Summa. It begins with consideration of the nature of theology, and then presents issues related to the existence of God and his qualities. We will find here, among others, the celebrated "five proofs" for the existence of God. St. Thomas discusses questions about the simplicity of God, his perfection, goodness, infinity, immutability, knowledge, love and omnipotence. As in another works, he seeks to harmonize the content of the Christian revelation with classical Greek-Latin philosophy.
Volume XVI is consecrated to the Holy Trinity and creation. The part about the Holy Trinity is 1 of the most crucial and at the same time the most hard fragments of Summa. The most important, due to the fact that it concerns fact at the heart of Christian revelation. It is besides 1 of the most hard due to the fact that it has a speculative and rather method character – St. Thomas uses all his intellectual craftsmanship to show the believers by analogy what we realize from the mystery of God in the Trinity. The thought of the Aquinaty focuses around the concept of People in the Trinity as “relationships surviving on their own”. He analyses theological concepts of person, relationship, origin of persons in the Trinity and another key issues for this topic.
Volume XVII covers the issues of Summa theology, in which St. Thomas continues to consider creation. They discuss the question of the multiplicity and diversity of creatures (question 47) and the nature of good and evil (question 48–49). He considers purely spiritual creatures, i.e. angels (questions 50–64), and then fleshly creatures (questions 65–74). The second part is mostly a commentary on the description of the six days of Genesis creation.
