On 1 July this year, the Polish Air Navigation Agency received information from the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) based in Belgium about the seizure of PAŻP (Polish Air Navigation Agency) for its way charges.
The business took place following the judgement of the Belgian court of April 2026. The case concerns an agreement concluded by the European Commission with Pfizer in 2021 for the unconsulted supply of vaccines against COVID-19 and Poland's withdrawal from that agreement in 2022.
This judgement on the part of Pfeizer, which should have been brought to the European Commission, led to a frost of PLN 6.5 billion in PPA funds.
This is an invalid judgment, but will consequence in no charges being levied for the provision and operation of Polish airspace, including the financing of flight controllers and all air infrastructure, radar stations and communication equipment.
The surprise is caused by the complete deficiency of reaction of the Management Board of the Polish Air Navigation Agency with the fresh president Magdalena Jaworska-Maćkowiak to the final judgment.
Although it has been 3 months since the verdict, the board contemplates its tardiness in the kind of a quote. "PAGP shall take all steps to remove the safety and release of the PPA funds. Formal objection shall be prepared and filed within the required period. The activities of PAŻP are carried out in close coordination with the lawyer General of the Republic of Poland and the competent authorities of the State ...”
