The Defence hotel conducted a comprehensive review of the military training base and peculiar attention was paid to gunmen. Thanks to fresh regulations, any of these objects, which have been excluded from usage in the last decade, will be re-used. The 3 shooting ranges are already in operation, and the others are waiting for the decision to be repealed and the possible modernization.

– Activities related to the restoration of weapon ranges are part of our wider strategy to strengthen the defence capabilities of the state. They arise straight from the current safety situation and the request to supply appropriate training conditions for the Polish Army – says Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence. “The shooting ranges stay under the authority of the Ministry of National Defence, so I initiate actions that will let for their gradual restoration into operation”, added the head of the MON.

The Ministry of Defence conducted a comprehensive review of the training base of the Polish Army – peculiar attention was paid to the facilities utilized for shooting training. This includes facilities excluded from the usage of decisions of building supervisors, environmental protection authorities, military unit commanders or infrastructure managers.

The reason for the closure of most of the presently unused shooting ranges was the 2001 regulation on the method conditions of the shooting ranges. Military facilities did not meet the standards in this regulation for e.g. protection zones and permissible sound standards.

The situation changed the entry into force of the fresh rules, including Laws of 2025 on peculiar rules for the preparation and implementation of strategical investments in defence needs of the state and the Decree of the Defence Minister of 2023 on method conditions for non-building buildings serving the defence of the State.

– The fresh regulations have created an chance to resume the operation of a number of military weapon ranges that previously, despite training potential, could not be used. Thanks to legislative changes, present we can return to these facilities and gradually reconstruct them to the strategy of training of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland – emphasises Cezary Tomczyk, Deputy Minister of Defence.

The General Staff of the Polish Army informs that up to 26 decisions have been submitted to exclude shooting ranges from use. 3 facilities have already been restored to operation, and six decisions are pending. ‘In the case of part of the infrastructure, modernisation and refurbishment work will should be carried out to let the re-use of the shooting ranges in the training process“” says SGWP.

In any facilities, where the current method condition allows, shooting training is resumed now, but to a limited extent, e.g. at shorter distances (up to 25 m) or without the usage of combat ammunition. Colonel Marek Pietrzak, a spokesperson for SGWP, besides stated that the ministry intends to carry out an analysis of the shooting ranges excluded from usage due to exceeding the permissible sound levels. Its results will let to identify another group of operational facilities based on the current provisions of the alleged investment specification.

– The restoration of the training infrastructure is crucial to guarantee appropriate conditions for training soldiers and further strengthening the state's defence capacity.
