Many protesters had banners with inscriptions specified as “Truth matters, not lies”, “The future is simply a woman”, “Stop Trump”, “Freedom and justice for everyone”, “Climate change is simply a fact”, “Black life matters”. The crowd passed from downtown, next to the White House, towards Abraham Lincoln's mausoleum.
— I am truly sad that our country is leaning towards a president who has already let us down once," said 1 of the demonstrators in a conversation with the BBC. Another added that the emotions that she was driven by coming to the protest were a mixture of “sadness, rage and overwhelmingness”. “We must defend what we believe: women’s rights, people’s rights,” said Tiffany, who flew to Washington from Utah.
According to Reuters for local police, about 25 1000 people took part in the demonstration in the capital; the organizers expected twice the number of participants. Over 300 “anti-Trump marches” are planned throughout the country.
A protest in Washington was organised by people active in the Women's Marches, which have been held annually in the United States since 2017, the first year of Trump's first term.
