NATO chief Mark Rutte assured that the North Atlantic Alliance would respond "with all force" if anyone considered that it was possible to attack Poland or another ally without consequence. It must be clear to Vladimir Putin and anyone else," Rutte stressed after gathering Prime Minister Donald Tuski.


As part of his visit to Poland, NATO secretary-general met with the head of the Polish government before noon. During a joint conference, Tusk stated that their talks concerned, among others, the safety of Poland and Europe in the context of ongoing negotiations on the end of the war in Ukraine.

"It is clear to everyone that the situation in Ukraine straight affects safety and Poland, and Europe" - said Tusk. He acknowledged that Europe's influence on ongoing negotiations was limited. "We request to be prepared, all the more so as NATO, we as Poland, for scenarios that are not written by us 100%" - said the Prime Minister.

"The unchangeable confirmation that NATO is obliged to defend Poland in all critical situation is very crucial to us" - added Tusk.

He pointed out that peace in Ukraine must be a warrant of its full sovereignty, due to the fact that "only a just peace will give us all a sense of security." "We will work very closely together on a good peace in Ukraine" - he assured.

The head of the Polish government reported that his conversation with Rutte besides afraid activities under the "Baltic Sentry" and the "European dimension of NATO". He thanked the Secretary-General of NATO for their clear support and interest in the Shield East project.

NATO Chief’s assurances

Mark Rutte noted that in the current geopolitical situation, expanding defence spending is crucial. He praised Poland for its spending and emphasized that it is simply a "valued ally", which strengthens the east flank of NATO.

"Let us not forget that Russia remains our top threat. Let us not forget that Russia is moving towards a war economy" - indicated Rutte.

"If anyone made a miscalculation, reasoning that he could attack Poland without consequences, or attack any another ally, then our Alliance will answer with all force. Our reaction will be devastating" - assured NATO chief.

As he added, It must be clear "to Vladimir Vladimir Putin and to anyone who would attack us".

The NATO chief besides stressed the importance of the Polish task Shield East. "I am glad that Poland invests in the safety of its borders, while Europe's safety and transatlantic security. I know that you are working closely with the EU on this" - said Rutte.

He pointed out that the transatlantic partnership was a pillar of NATO and ensured that this would not change.

After gathering Prime Minister Rutte was admitted to the Presidential Palace by president Andrzej Duda. The head of NATO is besides to meet Deputy Prime Minister, the head of the MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish and the head of the MFA Radosław Sikorski.
