"Border defender does not accept applications from those who effort crossing the border illegally as part of a hybrid operation" - reads the release published by the Ministry of Interior.

The government has already decided for the 5th time to extend restrictions on the right to asylum at the border with Belarus. 13 March for further suspension the Sejm besides agreed.

"The government is consistently working to defend the east border of Poland and the EU, without giving a chance to carry out illegal criminal activities, specified as organizing aggressive attempts to push the border, attacks on our officers, and support of Belarusian services in these activities" - said the ministry.

As highlighted, this "strong consequence to hybrid threats"from the Belarusian regime.

The Regulation on temporary limitation of the right to apply for global protection at the border with Belarus entered into force on 27 March 2025. Legal suspension valid for 60 days, but with the agreement of the Sejm at the request of the Council of Ministers, it may be extended, as has already happened five times.

As stressed by the authors of the proposal, dangerous events happen regularly on the border, during which aggressive foreigners attack Polish patrols, e.g. throwing stones, bottles or sticks with knives and nails attached to them.

Attention has besides been paid to the increasingly frequent attempts to prepare tunnels under the border barrier to transport foreigners to Poland. These activities were to be supervised by the Belarusian services.

From the introduction of a regulation on the right to apply for global protection to 22 February 2026, no applications were accepted from 451 foreigners.

A regulation to restrict asylum applications is issued on the basis of the alleged ‘restricted’. asylum law, adopted by the government in December 2024. It is intended to address the phenomenon of illegal migration from Belarus, which in cooperation with Russia and global criminal groups organises the migration of migrants to the European Union.
