Today at 7:00 p.m. on Krasiński Square in front of the monument of Warsaw Insurgents, there was an appeal of remembrance with the participation of insurgents, combatants, representatives of state and local authorities, as well as residents of the capital. – It was a conflict between young people and the unbreakable belief that Poland must be free again. Their attitude is an absolute model for us – said president Andrzej Duda.
Janusz Maksymowicz, Vice president of the Association of Warsaw Insurgents, spoke first at the ceremony on Krasiński Square. Addressing all gathered, he recalled the city's war drama and the extraordinary courage of its inhabitants. – We fought for universal values: freedom, honor, dignity of man. Warsaw was destroyed, but Hitler's directive was not fulfilled to vanish from the map of Europe," the insurgent pointed out. He besides stressed the importance of women in the uprising. "They were not only paramedics and liaisons, but fought side by side with men," he said. He besides mentioned dreams that came actual after years – the construction of the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the home of Insurgents. This home is not just our home by name. Here we meet with care, care and large kindness – said Maximowicz. In this way, he thanked the authorities of Warsaw, which provided care for the surviving Warsaw insurgents.
President Andrzej Duda was besides present at the ceremony, who stressed in his speech that "it was a conflict between young people, frequently without combat experience, but with unbreakable religion that Poland must be free again". – Their attitude is an absolute model for us – he noted. The commander of the armed forces besides referred to the current threats and building the safety of our country. “This Poland must be stronger than that, it must be safer and more predictable. She must be more capable of defending herself. Today, the task of the people of power is to modernise our army and build security. This is besides a commitment to Warsaw insurgents – Duda pointed out.
In turn the president of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski recalled how crucial the thought of a community was to the insurgents. “I have had hundreds or thousands of conversations with insurgents who were talking about this community. The fact that at the time of the uprising it was felt. There was nothing on the streets of Warsaw but another man. It was about community and purpose. This was the minute of unity that we all request so much today," said the politician.
During the appeal, the names of the surviving participants of the rally were read, and the wreaths in front of the monument in the company of Warsaw insurgents were presented, among others, by president Andrzej Duda, president of Elekt Karol Nawrocki, president of the capital city of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski and representatives of the Sejm, legislature and uniform services. The memory of the fallen was celebrated, among others, with a symbolic call "Stand to the appeal!"
