"The government plans to reconstruct wetlands to 450 1000 ha, including in the border region under the Natura Restoration Law programme. The Center for the Protection of Wetlands has already indicated areas for protection, including the Rospuda Valley, Sandr Wdy or the Krutyni basin. The plan includes the acquisition of land from farmers, flooding 300,000 ha and passive protection of 150 1000 ha peat bogs. Cost: PLN 28 billion. Authorities argue that wetlands will aid defend the country, although there is no mention of it in the 2021 strategy. The paper mentions, however, the spiritual and social importance of rivers. Critics uncertainty that swamps present are a real component of defence in the days of drones and rockets.”
