During the press conference after the gathering at the Presidential Palace, Confederate politician pointed out that the talks focused mainly on the most crucial issue for Poles today. We are talking about the safety of the state in the context of a changing global situation, but as it turns out, not only.
However, we focused any time on criticism of the current government, about how it treats the issue of Polish security, about the key to Polish investment security. We besides mentioned a fewer sentences (...) on the relation between the president and the Prime Minister – mentioned Sławomir Mentzen.
Common views
On the question of common views with Andrzej Duda, the Confederate candidate pointed out that both agree that the most crucial ally of Poland and its safety is the United States. He besides noted that they do not share their views on the US President, Donald Trump, who, in his opinion, does not act in favour of Russia.
At this point, I think counting on Europe is much little important. Military, military Europe is unfortunately little crucial than the United States, so we must base our safety at this point on the United States – he said.
The Confederate candidate in the presidential election besides meant that Poland's safety should be based on national armed forces. Amendments to the Constitution
When asked if the discussion afraid a presidential proposal to amend the Constitution, which assumes a mandatory level of defence spending of at least 4% of GDP, Mentzen replied that the president had tried to convince him to do so.
I think very seriously about it, I realize the arguments and I share skepticism with the current government, so possibly the task is worth considering. – he replied.
On 7 March, Andrzej Duda submitted a bill concerning the entry in the Constitution of a provision which will guarantee that Poland spends on defence and safety at least 4 percent of its GDP.
Security requires a serious political consensus and it must be guaranteed. I hope that this amendment to the Constitution will be adopted by the Sejm on average dates, without delay, due to the fact that the substance is crucial to us said Andrzej Duda to journalists.
Let us remind that a majority of two-thirds of the vote is needed in the Sejm to change the constitution.
