Spirit Airlines (NK) is the seventh largest carrier in the United States and the largest ultra low-cost operator in North America, headquartered in Dania Beach, Florida. The airline most recently made headlines for filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November last year, although after a financial restructuring, NK has commenced operations as of March 2025.
Over 5,000 flight attendants are employed by Spirit Airlines, a majority of whom are severely affected by the airline’s precarious financial position. As part of their restructuring, a new compensation plan was introduced to Spirit’s cabin crew, which came into effect in January this year. Here is a comprehensive look at how much they make in lieu of their contribution to helping the airline serve 91 domestic and international destinations with a fleet of over 190 planes.

Spirit Airlines Flight Attendant Salary

They are key in ensuring that the carrier makes maximum profitability by selling products like food, beverages and duty-free items on board while also being vital in helping with quick turnaround times by assisting in fast boarding and de-boarding between flights.
As with a majority of airlines in the US, they are paid an hourly rate, which is calculated in total with the block hours of each flight and the total flying duration in each month.
Spirit Airline’s flight attendants are paid an hourly rate starting from US$22.51, and with due experience, an individual in their 13th year with the airline can expect to make as much as $60.44 each hour.
NK’s flight attendants are expected to put in 85 hours of work in a calendar month and any additional hours are compensated with an hourly rate of 1.5 times their original threshold. There is also a per diem paid out on layovers whereas the airline also covers for all accommodation and transport costs away from the home base. Training completion also entails a bonus.
