Spain has requested that the NATO plan to increase defence spending by members be abandoned to 5% of GDP. This could undo the next week's summit on which specified a proposal was to be made. In a letter sent on Thursday to NATO chief Mark Rutte, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez demanded "a more flexible formula".
