Spain: besides slow transportation rate KTO Dragon

The VCR 8x8 Dragon vehicle acquisition program for the Spanish Army has been moving for respective years and has encountered a number of delays, which resulted in a crucial extension of its implementation date compared to the first plans. The first wagons were originally planned to be delivered in 2018, which did not happen. This happened only in the late 2022s, erstwhile at the site of the GDELS Santa Bárbara Sistemas plant there was a transfer to the Spanish ground troops of the first 7 of the mostly ordered 348 vehicles. From that point on, however, the number of wagons received by local soldiers was to increase to only around 20, which was due to many logistical problems. It came to the conclusion that a further EUR 420 million had to be transferred for the intent of the programme (worth more than US$2 billion so far) to velocity up its implementation (for a good origin so that it could be achieved at all). Despite this, the production process continues to be mediocre (for many reasons) which, with the increasing ageing fleet of Spanish transporters M113 and Pegazo and the notorious increase in the cost of the program, has caused considerable dissatisfaction to the defence ministry there.
