On Tuesday, South Korean president Jun Suk Jeol announced martial law in an unannounced live speech on YTN television. He justified the decision to defend the country against threat from North Korean communist forces and the elimination of anti-state elements supporting North Korea. The martial law declared by president Jun lasted only six hours and was cancelled under force from Parliament.
The Korean prosecution is investigating president Jun Suk Jeol, suspecting him of abuse of power and attempted coup. On Monday, the South Korean Minister of Justice informed the president of the ban on abroad travel.
President Jun avoided impeachment on Saturday erstwhile the MPs of the ruling People's Democratic organization boycotted the vote on the opposition's motion, leaving the sitting room. According to Yonhap's agency, only 2 PWL MPs, Ahn Cheol-soo and Kim Yea-ji remained in the courtroom. The request was yet rejected due to the absence of a quorum.
Apology and declaration
The president of South Korea has already apologized to the citizens of the country for the situation. As he said, the decision to introduce martial law was born of the desperation of the president, who yet assumes work for state affairs. At the same time, he added that he did not intend to reintroduce martial law.
Jun announced that he would not avoid legal or political work for the Tuesday declaration and its consequences.
A high-ranking police officer, Wu Jong Su, stressed the importance of securing key data. He did not regulation out the anticipation of proceeding the president over the charge of treason.
