The largest carrier in Poland

Service market-rail.pl stated that Elżbieta Bieńkowska, erstwhile Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, took the position of an independent associate of the Supervisory Board of Ukrainian Railways. Its three-year word of office began in early October and, in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, can be renewed without restriction.

The State-owned company of Ukrzaliznycia has 7 members of the Supervisory Board. Among them are German logistics specialist Gebhard Hafer, Ukrainian entrepreneur Anatolij Amielin and erstwhile head of taxation administration Maxim Moklik. In addition to Elżbieta Bieńkowska, the council is besides composed of erstwhile president of the Ukrainian Railway Alexander Kamyszyn, erstwhile deputy of Serhij Leshchenko and David Lomdzharia, president of the state-owned arms manufacturer's supervisory board.

Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) play a key function during the war, providing evacuation of the population, humanitarian aid transport and military supplies despite Russian attacks. They are besides a means of transport for abroad delegations. It is 1 of the largest carriers in the planet – it ranks 6th in passenger and 7th in freight. The network is nearly 19.8 1000 km long and covers six regional railways. In 2023, the company employed about 191 1000 employees, being the largest employer in the country.

A number of controversial statements

Elżbieta Bieńkowska has been an active associate in political life in Poland and internationally for many years. She served as Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Deputy Prime Minister and European Union Commissioner for interior marketplace and Services.

In 2015, she was placed in the centre of controversy following the disclosure of further recordings from the alleged band scandal, on which her message about the amount of pay was recorded. At that time we could hear the following words from Bieńkowska:

Also controversial was Bienkowska's message on mining:
