Activists of the Last Generation at the Memorial of Smolensk Disaster Victims
The unsub is inactive standing on the memorial. His name is Przemek, 35 years old and, as he says himself, he is simply a climate activist. The man conducts live broadcasts on social media, due to the fact that as he claims "the Government of Tusk and all another governments of this planet lead us to a climate disaster" and for this reason he just entered the monument "also the victims of the disaster due to the fact that he does not know how to scream more".
In addition to the demolition of the monument, activists of the Last Generation laid 2 wreaths under it. As they say, they did it to commemorate both those who died in the Smolensk disaster 15 years ago and those who die in the impending ecological disaster, which the government does not want to prevent.
"The last generation laid 2 wreaths under the Smolensk Steps – 1 for the victims of the Smolensk Disaster, the another for the present and future victims of the climate disaster. Smolensk Stairs is simply a memorial to tragic deaths – this is what Przemek does. It is besides essential to prevent millions of tragic deaths, or what value is our regret and perception of life as the highest value?" – the activists wrote, posting the recording on their Facebook page.
Climate activists and their methods
This is not the first time that activists from the "Last Generation" group have reached for specified extremist forms of protest. Their actions aim to draw attention to climate change, but they frequently make immense controversy, and they surely make immense costs.
In fresh years, the facade of the Golden Terraces and the monument of the Warsaw Mermaid on the Vistula boulevards have been covered with paint. The cost of cleaning the Mermaid – the historical symbol of Warsaw before the Second planet War, according to the city authorities, amounted to about PLN 5 thousand.
For now, it is not known what the consequences of the activist from Piłsudski Square will be. The police are continuing at the scene.
