SINGAPORE- One of the world’s best airlines, Singapore Airlines (SQ) is strengthening its Philippine presence with a new virtual travel fair and an additional daily flight to Manila (MNL).

The airline aims to boost passenger traffic by making bookings more accessible while expanding flight capacity. In August, Singapore Airlines launched a 5th daily service to Manila, increasing seat capacity by 27%. This marks the carrier’s first route expansion in the Philippines since 2009.

Singapore Airlines Expands Flights to Manila

“Transitioning into a virtual travel fair is a very good move for us. It’s a good decision because it provides our customers with convenience and nationwide access,” said Aiza S. Garcia, Singapore Airlines Head of Marketing & PR.

Garcia explained that the shift to a virtual format for the annual travel fair was driven by changes in travel trends brought about by the pandemic.

She noted that travelers are now more comfortable with digital and cashless transactions, which aligns with the airline’s efforts to simplify booking.

Despite the digital shift, SIA’s market remains diverse. “We do have travelers who have been frequent fliers of Singapore Airlines, and those who are younger who used to aspire to flying with us, are now flying with us, so it really is a mix,” Garcia added.

Passengers who prefer additional convenience can also continue to book flights through travel agencies. This hybrid approach ensures flexibility in how customers plan their holidays.

According to Business World, the introduction of services SQ913 and SQ914 reflects strong demand and optimism for continued market growth.

“With the additional service of SQ913 and SQ914, that already gives a very positive testament that there is demand and we are meeting that demand with capacity,” Garcia emphasized.

Together with its low-cost subsidiary Scoot, Singapore Airlines currently operates 86 weekly flights to and from Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, and Clark, connecting Filipinos to Singapore and beyond.
