Ambitious, hardworking and creative – his superiors and colleagues talk about him. Grzegorz dreamed of serving at the Army Commandos Unit since childhood. The road to the elite led through medical rescue and service in the chemical battalion. Today, as an experienced Petty Officer, he is liable for, among others, the medical training of operators and integrates the medical community.

This communicative begins with a cinematic hit from the late 1980s. The Delta Branch, an American action movie with Chuck Norris, took over the imagination of a young boy from Radzionkov, Silesia. I imagined a peculiar task force as a child. However, I did not anticipate that these children's dreams could come actual – says Grzegorz (we do not give the name of the soldier due to the specifics of the service). He admits that erstwhile he and his parents passed close the Lublin unit, he was curious about what was behind the walls of the office of this elite branch. But what the service among the commandos looked like was not until 2016.

In 2005, he volunteered for the primary service, and after a "supplement" for respective years he contracted various professions to yet become active with medicine. He initially worked as an ambulance driver, then as a paramedic. At 1 point, the dreams of the army came back. I have decided to take up professional service – he admits. He went to the 5th Chemical Battalion in Tarnowskie Mountains, where he became an operator... smokers, and then served as a chemical and medical lifeguard.

RECLAMA

The service in this unit did not satisfy his ambition, so he decided to fight for a seat among the specialists. And though he fell out of selection to Commando Military Unit, destiny smiled at him. He received the offer of service in the safety sub-sections of JWK – and accepted it without hesitation. He has passed a course of peculiar activities and has served in vertical training for 10 years. “I will never forget the emotion that accompanied me erstwhile I put on a dark green beret of peculiar troops,” he recalls.

The service in the army reconciles with the duties of a lifeguard and medical dispatcher. He is besides a associate of many medical associations. “Thanks to experience in military service and medical practice, including in infirmary wards, the Petty Officer is present a pillar of the medical training of our unit’s soldiers,” says Deputy Commander JWK. A fewer years ago, it was Grzegorz who developed a several-step program for training medical operators.

– I wanted to systematize the cognition of our physicians and rise them to a higher level. I wanted to equalize the opportunities of the boys who served in Poland, with those who went overseas to prestigious but not available to all peculiar forces medical courses," he recalls. – I am from a combat team, so for many years I thought that the highest value in this unit was the operators. Grzesiek proved me wrong. I understood that the values of a soldier are not measured by a given selection or number of abroad missions – says “Kosa”, head of JWK training. So what's the difference between Grześka and Grześka? – Ambition, industriousness, creativity and modesty – points to concretes.

Grzegorz is constantly looking for fresh solutions, expanding the horizons of specialists and training military from another types of armed forces. He besides directed the work of an global squad of medics who prepared peculiar forces instructors of the Ukrainian Army. He invents what to do is simply a more complicated medical exercise involving another military units, but besides state and volunteer fire brigades, paramedics, doctors, Air Rescue and Police. "Today, medical doctors in the military should know more than just treat gunshot wounds. We request to know how to deal with injured children and aged people, what to do in the event of mass disasters. We request to learn how to interact with various services in the event of a crisis and war," says the CO.

And it was this integration of military and civilian medics that was at the core of the cooperation that the Commando Military Unit has been conducting with Silesian Medical University. “For respective years we have supported applicable training of students of this university. Since late we have been working with the WUM besides in the organization of postgraduate studies in field medicine – explains Grzegorz. Based on JWK's trainings and conclusions from armed conflicts, the Petty Officer co-created a curriculum that allows civilian medics to make competence in tactical medicine and extended care of the injured.

“The boundary between civilian medicine and military medicine is very smooth, so it is highly crucial to integrate both of these environments. In this area, JWK has peculiar achievements, due to the fact that it truly strengthens the process of training future doctors and paramedics. Mr Grzegorz is very open and very eager to share his knowledge. It brings advanced substantive competences to the academic community, teaches work and ability to act under time pressure. It besides strengthens the ethos of service, and it is very crucial for students to see in lifeguards in the uniforms of partners to interact, people from whom much can be learned," says Prof. Alicja Grzanka, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Zabrze.

This, of course, does not exhaust the list of plans and initiatives in which the sergeant is involved. Commando will prepare recommendations on medical equipment within the framework Operation Szczej and will shortly join the ministerial squad to make legal changes to regulate the lifeguards' activities in uniform.
